Diversity in Japan

Diversity Council

In 2016, following a series of local diversity initiatives, Citi launched a Diversity Council in Japan chaired by the Citi Country Officer. The council has three pillars―Citi Disability, Citi Pride and Citi Women―that promote an equitable and inclusive culture where we can proudly reach our fullest potential. All initiatives and activities are run by employee volunteers.

Citi Disability

Citi actively hires people with disabilities as professionals and provides necessary support to those who needs special needs to exercise their full potential. Internally, Citi Disability runs activities to improve our employees' understanding of various disabilities as well as the employment market for people with disabilities, the issues they face in the workplace and daily life, and the support they require. Some of our colleagues have received individual awards from the Accessibility Consortium of Enterprises (ACE).

Activity highlights:

  • Monthly sign-language sessions by a Citi employee
  • Casual Coffee Chat sessions among employees to raise awareness of disabilities
  • Various activities in partnership with Quon Chocolate (La Barca Group)
  • Events with COCO FARM & WINERY
  • Celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
  • Various activities in partnership with Paralympics athletes
  • Speaker sessions with external guest speakers

Citi Pride

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning/queer (LGBTQ+) employees to foster professional development and career success, as well as enhancing all our employees' understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning/queer (LGBTQ) community. In addition to exchanging information with other industry firms and joining networking groups, including LGBT Finance, we actively participate in community events that promote LGBTQ+ recognition and provide programs for our LGBTQ+ colleagues.

Citi Women

Citi is continuing efforts to increase the number of female executives in Japan and globally. Also, we are aiming to further improve the work-life balance of employees through initiatives and programs ranging from work guidelines to childbirth, childcare, and nursing benefits. Citi is a member of the 30% Club Japan and the Association for Women in Finance (AWF).
