Citi Volunteers
Our Commitment to the Communities
As champions of progress in the cities where we live and work, Citi is helping provide solutions to some of the world's toughest challenges. One of our greatest assets is our people. Citi colleagues worldwide use their professional skills, expertise and time by volunteering directly with community partners to promote progress.
Citi colleagues in Japan can take advantage of paid volunteer leave and the Give Back Leave system to participate in various volunteer activities offered through Citi (Citi Foundation programs, diversity events, Global Community Day, FIT for Charity Run, etc.) as well as their own volunteer initiatives within and outside business hours.
Global Community Day
Since Global Community Day began in 2006, colleagues, friends, family, alumni, community partners and clients have served more than 5 million volunteer hours across 90 countries and territories in 450 cities.
In Japan, the GCD 2021 program included a wide range of virtual volunteer opportunities with Citi's non-profit partners to promote diversity and inclusion as well as to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. Below are some examples.
- Food drive / World Food Programme (WFP) Freerice Trivia
- Introducing Para-athletes to elementary school children
- Adding Japanese subtitles to digital teaching materials for hearing–impaired children
- Interacting with elderly people in nursing homes online / Sending summer greeting cards to elderly people in nursing homes
- Acts of Kindness and Independent volunteer activities
FIT for Charity Run
FIT For Charity Run is a social service event held with the cooperation of financial institutions in Tokyo to raise money for local community organizations which serve important but not necessarily well recognized or understood needs. Citi has been supporting the initiative since its launch in 2005, and many colleagues and their families and friends join this event every year.
Special Olympics Nippon Tokyo
Citi has been a sponsor for NPO Special Olympics Nippon Tokyo for more than a decade. Citi supports their sports and cultural activities to advance diversity and inclusion of persons with mental disabilities in the society. Joint sports games are well participated by our employees and provide valuable experience to everybody involved.
