A Message From Our CEO
Citi and the Sustainable Development Goals
While Citi has a leading role to play in all 17 SDGs, we have identified seven SDGs where we believe we can have the greatest impact.
In 2019, Citi joined with the UN and other business leaders to create the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance, which seeks to deliver concrete solutions to scale-up long-term finance and investment in sustainable development. The 30 members have committed to scale up our collective efforts to align our businesses with the goals and to remove barriers to finance.
In Japan, Citi has concluded a partnership agreement with Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) to promote understanding of SDGs and build a sustainable society. Citi is sharing knowledge and knowhow it has acquired in the field of sustainability across 160 countries to help progress SDG-related research activities, an area in which SFC is a leader. As a part of the partnership, Citi supported xSDG Consortium in the development of “SDG Action List for Business ver. 1 (SDG Action List)”, a new tool that provides standards for companies to evaluate actions from the perspective of their impact across the entire supply chain. Citi also sponsors a “SDGs and Finance” course at SFC. Classes are taught by senior executives and employees who lead Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives at Citi.
